Abstract

Research on inflammatory diseases in the pediatric population is often limited by small volume of biospecimens and timely collection of these samples. In this presentation, we discuss the use of proximity extension assay for immune profiling of pediatric inflammatory diseases including Kawasaki disease, multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children, macrophage activation syndrome, and various viral infections.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize key challenges in immune profiling of pediatric inflammatory diseases, including precious and time-sensitive biospecimens.
  • Describe how proximity extension assay (PEA) enables high-sensitivity, multiplex immune profiling from small sample volumes.
  • Interpret immune profiling applications across pediatric conditions such as Kawasaki disease, MIS-C, macrophage activation syndrome, and viral infections.
